The Marian virtues

Two canvases by Giovanni Bruni, Virgo Salus Infirmorum and Refugium Peccatorum (1853), are part of the Marian cycle. These works, located in the chapel of Our Lady in the right transept, highlight the healing gifts of the Virgin and her function as mediator between God and mankind.
Augustine in his own writings, and then later the Augustinians, exalted these virtues, placing the action of Mary on the same plane as that of Christ.
