Just like San Galgano, even Saint Martina (third century AD), portrayed in the next painting, came from a noble family The girl was a victim of the Christian persecution ordered by Emperor Severus Alexander, sitting on the far right in the painting. In the foreground, the martyr is pushed by one of the executioners onto the stake, which she miraculously survived. On the left, there is a man holding the sword with which she will be beheaded. On the top part of the canvas, made by Pietro da Cortona for the Bandinelli chapel in 1655, there are two little cherubs presenting the Saint with the  palm and the crown of martyrdom.
