The Co-cathedral of the SS. Salvatore in Montalcino
Church of Corpus Domini
From the square, climbing the steep hill on the left, we come to the church of Corpus Domini.
The church was originally the Oratory of the Confraternity of Corpus Domini, an association of lay brothers who came together to worship and do works of charity. In keeping with the spiritual climate of the time, the brothers devoted themselves to adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in which they recognized the real presence of the Risen Christ. The building was raised in 1510 on the sport where the hospital of San Cristoforo stood in the thirteenth century.
Inside the church, a painting of The Triumph of the Eucharist by Antonio di Nerio is above the high altar. Today, the church is taken care of by the people of the Ruga district.
